A 60-year-old man accused of sending threatening messages to two female relatives has been remanded in custody.

James McArthur pled not guilty to one charge under the Communications Act at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

McArthur is alleged to have sent messages via a public electronic communications network that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character between January 28 and February 17 at his home in Green Street in Saltcoats, in Irvine and in Ardrossan.

He is alleged to have repeatedly made phone calls to two female relations and left voicemails with threatening or menacing remarks.

McArthur will return to the court next month on an intermediate diet to later face trial. Bail was refused, and he was remanded until then.
