Residents are being invited to view plans for a new £7.5million housing development in Irvine.

People can go along to see the updated proposals for the new council housing on the site of the old Towerlands Primary School.

Building works at the site are currently expected to commence this summer with residents moving into homes next year.

The proposed development on Heatherstane Way will provide 50 new council homes including general needs, amenity and wheelchair units.

The planned multimillion-pound development at the former school site forms part of North Ayrshire Council’s plans to build more than 1,300 new properties by 2024.

North Ayrshire Council’s Housing Services will host a further consultation event on Thursday, March 7, between 4pm and 6pm, at Towerlands Community Centre.

At the consultation people will be able to view the final plans and house designs, discuss any questions with the contractor; and getinformation regarding site access arrangements and traffic management proposals.

Cabinet Member for Place, Councillor Jim Montgomerie, said: “Our ambitious council housing programme has already almost 300 modern, energy-efficient homes across North Ayrshire and we are well on track to build more than 1,300 new council houses by 2024.

“We also have other housing proposals at different stages of development so we are not standing still – we are determined to help change people’s lives for the better and transforming communities in every part of North Ayrshire is a key part of that aim.”

Following the consultation event, the proposals will be available to view online from Friday, March 8, until Friday, March 29, at www.northayrshire.community/consultations/open-consultation
