New figures showing unemployment has fallen in North Ayrshire have been welcomed by Irvine's MSP.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that Scotland’s employment rate for October to December 2018 fell to 3.5 per cent, a record low and lower than the UK rate of four per cent.
ONS analysis estimates that the unemployment rate in North Ayrshire was 5.8 per cent for October 2017-September 2018, a fall of 0.9 per cent year on year.
Ruth Maguire MSP, said: “These are encouraging figures that show unemployment falling in North Ayrshire.
“But Brexit continues to be an enormous threat. The Scottish government estimates that a no-deal Brexit could result in an increase in unemployment in Scotland of around 100,000.”
