St MARK’S pupils received a lesson on recycling last week when ‘Poppy’ the purple bin mascot, stopped by.

Poppy, along with NAC’s waste awareness team, are currently taking the council’s Purple Bin Roadshow tour to schools, libraries, supermarkets and community centres to spread the word on the upcoming bin changes from April 1.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “Our young people are incredibly savvy and we know from experience that they are often the ones keeping their parents/carers right when it comes to putting the right stuff in the right bin.

“Therefore it’s absolutely vital that we teach them about these changes so that they can continue to champion recycling and do their bit for the environment.

“Our Poppy mascot has really helped us deliver the recycling message to a younger audience as she adds some fun and excitement.”
