A terminally-ill schoolgirl is halfway to realising her final wish.

The family of nine-yearold Jessica Greenwood say their fundraising campaign to raise £10,000 for technology to give her a voice, has reached the halfway point.

Jessica suffers from a complex form of Cerebral Palsy which has left her needing peg fed, on constant oxygen, unable to talk or move her hands, arms and legs.

Doctors have told the nine-yearold’s devastated family there is no more help available to her and she is now receiving palliative care.

The James MacFarlane pupil also struggles to swallow meaning that she needs round the clock attention and care, meaning mum Claire, 33 and dad Martin, 34, have to use a suction device to prevent her choking on her own saliva.

Since her health deteriorated following a hip operation in 2017, Jessica has only been able to communicate using her eyes and now her family want to make whatever time she has left as comfortable for her as possible.

Now the Irvine couple, who also have a son Liam, 11, who also suffers from Cerebral Palsy, have launched a fundraising drive to raise £10,000 to allow them to buy state-of-the-art technology which would allow their daughter to ‘speak’ to them with only the movement of her eyes.

The ‘Eyegazer’ technology is programmed specifically to the individual user and Claire says would improve Jessica’s quality of life for the time she has left.

Since launching the fundraising dr ive two weeks ago the family have raised more than £5,600 - more than halfway. Claire said:“The reaction from people has been amazing. We can’t believe we are at the halfway mark just two weeks after starting the fundraising. People have been so generous, it’s actually been overwhelming.”

The family have organised a fundraising night starring Little Mix tribute band Little Mix Magic in the Marress Sports Club on May 24. Tickets are £15. Doors open at 7pm. Children and adults welcome.
