Police and fire crews turned up in force after two incidents in Irvine's Bridgegate.

Police responded to 'an incident' at Cash Generators at around 4.40pm today, while at the same time four fire engines were called out to nearby West Road after reports of 'smoke in the area'. 

Firefighters were seen running a hose under the former Ruby Tuesday's site with the area leading to the stairs from the Bridgegate taped off.

Police have not yet confirmed the nature of the incident, however a spokesperson said: "Police attended an incident at Cash Generators, Bridgegate at around 4.40pm.

"A man has been taken to the police station." 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We recieved a call at 4.46pm to a report of smoke in the area.

"We mobilised four fire appliances and there have been no casualties."
