A major comic convention will kick off in Irvine this weekend after being moved to a new location.

Comic Con organisers Big Glasgow Comics Page (BGCP) say the new venue will be The Volunteer Rooms, after previously being planned in the Rivergate, and runs from 10am to 4pm on April 13 and April 14.

With the free event near full capacity, admittance will be based on how full the venue is at the time.

Attendees can expect more 30 stalls selling comics, action figures, art, trading cards, Lego, jewellery and there will also be workshops, quizzes and competitions both days.

Organiser Scott Gorman said: “We moved to the Volunteer Rooms as there’s going to be more space for vendors – there wasn’t a great deal of space for us within the shopping centre as it turned out.

“We’ve got various guests like Supergirl, Batman, Ironman and we’ve got a couple of quizzes each day.

“We’ve our usual cosplay competitions – there’s one each day. We’ve still a couple of tickets left for our free art classes on each day. One guy Gary Erskine, who’s worked with everyone you can imagine from Marvel to DC, he’s doing a design your own character workshop.

“We’ve a guy from Robot Wars coming with his props table as well as one of the house robots Shunt.

“I’ll be doing green screen there as well, we take a photo of you in a costume and superimpose you into a poster or scene of Star Wars, Disney, Harry Potter or Dr Who.

“We’ve still some tickets left for the Sunday, but Saturday is pretty much at capacity."
