North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson has been rushed to hospital after suddenly taking ill, the Times can reveal.

The provost was due to appear at a photocall last night but was taken to hospital after having becoming unwell.

Councillor Clarkson is still in hospital and is expected to be released later this week following further tests.

Council Leader Joe Cullinane, said: “On behalf of all elected members and staff at North Ayrshire Council, we send our well wishes to Ian and hope he has a speedy recovery.”

A spokeswoman for North Ayrshire Council said: "We can confirm Councillor Ian Clarkson is currently in hospital undergoing tests."
