RECORDS were broken at last weekend’s Coral Scottish Grand National meeting at Ayr Racecourse.

The event, which was held on Saturday at the Craigie course, was a total sell-out.

Saturday saw some 18,500 people flock to take in the showpiece national event.

And on Friday, there were 5,500. A host of celebrities attended, including football pundits Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist, Chris Hughes of Love Island and weatherman Sean Batty.

Racecourse PR manager Iain Ferguson said: “That has to be the biggest ever national and it was great we had so many people here.”

Thousands of bottles of champagne were enjoyed and food sales were also high.

The headline race, the Coral Scottish Grand National threw up a surprise as the 25-1 shot Taking Risks, trained by Nicky Richards and ridden by Sean Quinlan, coasted to victory.
