It’s hoped that a 'heavy team' will show their support for Irvine’s community centres and libraries this week.

Irvine's community councillors have rescheduled this month's meeting to May 8 to allow as many people to attend this Wednesday’s (May 1) library and community centre engagement workshop in the Townhouse– which will determine public demand and the future of such facilities.

And Irvine Community Council chair Tristan Lindsay hopes residents will turn out in force to support the under threat centres.

He said: “They’re doing a review into libraries and they want to hear the voice of the people. I’m hoping you can all turn up to this meeting, I need a heavy team, because they’re going to be cutting hours or cutting staff and I’m very worried we’re going to have nothing left.”

Workshops will take place from 6.30pm- 8pm on the following days:

Wednesday, May 1 – Irvine Townhouse

Tuesday, May 7– Greenwood Conference Centre, Dreghorn

Thursday, May 9 – Kilwinning Academy
