The Marymass Queen and Marys will now be chosen from everywhere in Irvine, the Times can exclusively reveal.

Traditionally only girls living in the KA12 area would be eligible to become a member of the Royal Party.

However the Times can exclusively reveal that Irvine Carters Society this week changed the historic rules after a series of meetings.

The new rules mean any girls of eligible age, living in the KA12 and KA11 areas will have their chance to be a Marymass Queen or Mary.

The change will now include Girdle Toll, Bourtreehill, Springside, Drybridge, Broomlands, Shewalton and Perceton, amongst others, will be included.

Captain of Irvine Carters Society Danny Kerr told the Times: “We are excited about the change. It marks a progressive change in the Festival’s history. We recognise that times are changing and over time we notice that the fabric of marriage is changing and some girls have two addresses so this opens it up so that more people are included. It also, of course means those living in any KA11 addresses will finally have their chance to become involved in Marymass.”
