Two Kilwinning youngsters have been presented with the highest award possible in the Scouting world.

Abbey Roy and Scott Jaffrey, of the Kilwinning Scouts, travelled to Windsor Castle on Sunday, April 28 to officially receive their Queen Scout Awards.

As the Times reported previously, Abbey and Scott were presented locally with the accolade by Iona McDonald, Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran.

At the weekend, the pair were among 360 Scouts and their families across the UK to attend a day of celebration at the royal castle where they officially received the honour from Chief Scout Bear Grylls and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.

Alan Roy, who is Abbey’s dad and explorer scout leader at Kilwinning Scouts, said: “It was a good day. Me and my wife and Scott’s mum and dad all went down.

“The Queen Scout Award is the highest award achieved in Scouting. They [Abbey and Scott] have worked extremely hard to achieve this. In addition to this it has been over 20 years since this award has been achieved in the 19th Ayrshire Kilwinning Explorer Scout Group.”
