HUNDREDS of Ayr Rugby Club fans donned their finery to roar their team on in the Scottish club game’s showpiece cup final.

Fans of the Millbrae side all gathered in the clubhouse on Saturday morning to enjoy a breakfast and also welcome drinks to steady their nerves ahead of the big day.

It turned into quite a battle and nerves were frayed for the Ayr fans, who had been hoping to celebrate a double after enjoying Premiership title glory.

They were up against a very strong Heriot’s side they had already pipped to glory and knew that they would certainly have their work cut out.

That they certainly did as they had to produce some of their best rugby of the season in a hugely tense match.

Their team were at one point well behind and they had to show some great character to claw their way back into the match and make it a contest.

That they did and they took the game to extra-time before finally prevailing.

This sparked some more mass celebrations after the final whistle and the fans and players later headed back down the M8 and M77 for yet another unforgettable party at Millbrae.

The Ayr fans are some of the best in the business in terms of their backing and their colourful outfits were well noticed in the capital.

They have made a habit of making their way to cup finals and the fans certainly know how to celebrate those occasions.

Now they can enjoy a break before thinking about a much more challenging season coming up. But in the meantime they can bask in some well-earned glory.
