The family of a terminally-ill schoolgirl left unable to speak or move are more than halfway to smashing their fundraising target.

Jessica Greenwood has a complex form of Cerebral Palsy which has left her needing peg fed, on constant oxygen, unable to talk or move her hands, arms and legs. Doctors have told the nine-year-old’s devastated parents Claire, 33 and dad Martin, 34, there is no more help available to her and she is now receiving palliative care.

Now they are hoping to raise £10,000 to pay for vital technology which will help her communicate.

Since launching the fundraising campaign in March the family has managed to raise an incredible £6,625 to go towards the EyeGazer technology, which would allow Jessica to ‘speak’ to them with only the movement of her eyes.

Claire has organised a fundraising night with a Little Mix Tribute band later this month, but the mum-oftwo says she is struggling to sell tickets.

She said: “I’m not sure if the price is too high, but we haven’t sold enough and I really don’t want to cancel.”

James MacFarlane pupil, Jessica, struggles to swallow meaning that she needs round the clock attention and care, meaning her parents, have to use a suction device to prevent her choking on her own saliva.

Claire said: “Jessica was born with Cerebral Palsy and has been in and out of hospital her whole life.

“As a result complications from a hip operation she suffered a cardiac arrest and ended up in intensive care for three months and had to be incubated twice because she contracted sepsis. She is also unable to swallow which means we need to use suction and if we don’t use it at the right time, it can be fatal.”

The fun night will be held in Irvine Sports Club on May 24. Tickets are £15.
