An urgent appeal for more foodbank donations has been issued after people seeking food had to be turned away.

Residents are urged to donate anything they can after Girdle Toll Parish church ran out of its supplies last night - with North Ayrshire foodbanks main base in Ardrossan previously appealing for more donations this month.

Foods needed are breakfast cereals, soup, pasta sauce/tinned tomatoes, tinned beans, tinned meat, vegetarian main meals, tinned tuna, hotdogs/meatballs, tinned pulses, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, rice pudding/custard, UHT milk, longlife fruit juice, coffee, biscuits, snacks, tinned macaroni cheese/spaghetti bolognese/spaghetti.

Appealing on social media last night, Girdle Toll Parish Church said: "We have had to close our food bank early today because we have run out of food. Unless we get donations in the next few days, we will be unable to open on Friday or for the foreseeable future.

"The main food bank in Ardrossan is being forced to turn people away because of lack of stock, so cannot help us here.

"Our service is desperately needed by families in our local community. Without the food that we distribute, children face going to bed hungry.

Donations can be handed in to Girdle Toll Parish Church, Bryce Knox Court from 3pm-5pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 4pm-6pm Fridays. If these times times don't suite let them know and they can sort something out as people are often available outwith these hours who can accept donations.

"Please do not leave donations on the doorstep."
