SPRING was truly in the air when Dundonald Castle and Visitors Centre ran it’s first bluebell walk at the end of April.

Well attended, the walk took in bluebells both on and off the beaten track and finished at the neolithic vitrified fort on the Smugglers Trail.

A great deal of wood lore was discussed and as well as the extensive bluebells there were wood anemones, wild garlic, red campion, yellow pimpernel, primroses and many other native wild flowers.

Parts of Dundonald ancient woodland are protected as Special Site of Scientific Interest as well as several areas being scheduled ancient monuments. There is another walk being planned for June.
