The winner of a supermarket sweep in Irvine has raised an amazing £506.79 for a foodbank.

The famous Supermarket Sweep recently arrived in Irvine and lucky shopper Alan Brown, who was chosen as the winner of an instore competition, took part in the five-minute trolley dash for charity on Saturday, June 1.

As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Aldi matched the total value of Alan’s haul and donated the lump sum to his nominated charity, Ayrshire East Foodbank, run by CVO East Ayrshire.

Aldi Supermarket Sweep winner Alan Brown said: “I had a fantastic time taking part in the Supermarket Sweep at Aldi’s Irvine store. The staff were brilliant at encouraging me around the store and I’m especially glad to have helped raise money for Ayrshire East Foodbank. I would like to say a special thank you to Aldi for the opportunity to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Scotland, said: “The Aldi supermarket sweep is now a firm favourite across the country and this time it was the turn of Alan from Irvine to take part. During the five-minute sweep at our East Road store, Alan managed to snap up a whole load of Aldi treats for himself and what’s more, raise an incredible amount for CVO Ayrshire East Foodbank.

Alistair Murison, from Ayrshire East Foodbank, commented: “The Aldi Supermarket Sweep has generated a fantastic amount of money for our foodbank. Last year, from April to March, Ayrshire East Foodbank supported over 6700 people, about a third of whom were children, so we are so grateful for this generous donation. On behalf of Ayrshire East Foodbank, I would like to say thank you to Aldi and Alan for making this donation possible.”
