The swimming pools at Irvine's Portal leisure centre will re-open on schedule for the start of the summer holidays.

The Times can reveal that works to repair the drainage, following issues since the centre opened in 2017, will be completed by June 28 to reopen the next day.

A spokesman for North Ayrshire Council said: "Work is progressing as expected and pools still scheduled to reopen on 29th June."

The pools at the centre have been closed for almost 10 weeks, since April 23 whilst KA leisure bosses ensured the repair works were undertaken.

It is understood anyone paying for swimming lessons via direct debit will be reimbursed.
