NORTH Ayrshire’s top male bowlers descended on Kilwinning BC to attempt to represent the district at the Scottish National Championships next month in Ayr.

Throughout the day, a number of matches took place with the seniors in the afternoon and main draws in the evening.

George Adrain from Dreghorn was the first player through after a 21-12 over Kilwinning’s Tommy Coombe before the Kilwinning four of Brian Meechan, Billy Malcolm, Stewart McDowall and Jim Allan recorded a 16-7 over Towerlands.

In the gents fours, George Adrain skipped his rink of Kenny Craig, Stan McNish and Billy Weir to a convincing 23-3 win over Irvine Park to qualify in two events.

In the mixed pairs, home favourites Kilwinning were beaten by the experienced David Rae and Nora Malcolm by 16 shots to 12.

Ardrossan’s Graham Iley, Paul Fisher and Steven Burns made up for their defeat in last year’s triples final to win 16-10 over Blacklands.

And it was further heartache for Blacklands in the singles and the junior singles with Jim Wilson of Saltcoats beating Scott Spiers in the main event by 21 shots to 15 and Aiden Smith from Kilwinning came back strong to defeat Blair Davidson by 21 shots to 17.

Kilwinning made it another team through with Tommy Coombe and Kevin Kelly winning in the pairs 21-11 at the expense of West Kilbride.
