Irvine’s active travel hub was officially opened by Lee Craigie, Active Nation Commissioner for Scotland.

The Trinity Active Travel Hub as it’s known – located in the former Trinity Church at Bridgegate in Irvine – has been transformed to include an activity space and office.

The hub will provide advice on active travel routes and public transport as well as access to bikes, maintenance equipment and training on cycle confidence as well as volunteering activities such.

As well as launching the Active Travel Hub, guests were invited to a new closed cycle loop at The Circuit on Quarry Road. The cycle loop will be used to provide cycling training to local people and groups and is due to open later this summer.

This project received £476,000 support from European Regional Development Funds under Transport Scotland’s Low Carbon Travel and Transport Challenge Fund.

The project will support the active travel infrastructure improvements being delivered as part of an Irvine Cycle Friendly Town study and encourage more people to walk, cycle and use public transport for daily journeys and, reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
