AN IRVINE man has appeared in court charged with careless driving and possessing cocaine.

Thomas Howie is accused of driving without due care and attention on Dalry Road on February 25 this year.

The 42-year-old is accused of driving over the top of a mini roundabout and travelling on the opposing carriageway, causing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

He is also charged with accelerating harshly, driving at excessive speed and being in possession of a class A drug.

During an appearance at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week Howie admitted to possession of cocaine but denied the driving charge.

He will return to the same court at the end of the month.
