A 39-year-old Saltcoats man has been arrested and charged in relation to a theft by housebreaking in the town.

At around 7.20pm on Friday, July 12 residents of a property in Ivanhoe Drive, Saltcoats returned home and disturbed a man within their home.

Police were contacted, the man was arrested following police enquiries and he will be held in police custody to appear at Court.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Everyone should feel safe at home and be able to live their lives without fear of their hard earned possessions being stolen and having that space invaded.

“This type of crime can have a lasting impact on victims and we are committed to working with communities and our partners to tackle those involved in housebreaking.

“I would encourage residents to continue reporting any suspicious activity to police by calling 101 or by dialling 999 in an emergency.”
