Police were called out to the Bridgegate yesterday after a prisoner caused a disturbance in a prison van.
Officers responded to the incident outside Bridgegate House just before noon on Tuesday, July 30.
The prisoner had to attend a meeting in Bridgegate House while in custody, with one eye witness telling the Times they could hear shouting and banging from inside the private security vehicle.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At 11.52am on Tuesday, July 30 police were called to Bridgegate, Irvine in response to a male prisoner within a prison van causing a disturbance.
"Assistance was rendered and no persons were charged."
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The person in question was attending a pre-arranged meeting in Bridgegate House.”
