North Ayrshire pupils have been reminded not to worry if they didn't get the results they were hoping for in their exams today.

Council leader Joe Cullinane said: "Good luck to everyone receiving exam results this morning in North Ayrshire.

"Please remember - if you didn't get the results you wanted don't worry, there are many options available to you to pursue your chosen career.

The national exam results helpline opens at 8am and can be contacted free on 0808 100 8000.

Counsellors at the Childline service are also offering help to school pupils who are worried about the exam grades they receive.

The charity said: "Don’t panic if you don’t get the results you were hoping for, you may have to make some tough decisions but remember you always have options and you can get help and everyone is different so try not to compare your results to your friends or classmates.

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Ayrshire is reminding residents of its ‘No Wrong Path’ campaign.

Residents are being encouraged to post a photograph of themselves holding a handwritten sign outlining their name, what they did when they left school and what they are doing now using the hashtag #NoWrongPath and tag @DYWAyrshire on social media.
