POLICE are warning business owners to be on their guard after a recent spate of break-ins.

Business premises across Ayrshire have fallen foul of burglaries and police are now asking owners and staff to consider security as part of core business.

PC Johnson, Preventions and Interventions Officer for North Ayrshire, said: “Security is important to both the success of your business and the safety of your staff, and it need not be expensive.

"Training staff to be vigilant, keeping back office areas locked and making sure existing alarm and CCTV systems are fully operational are all simple measures that can make a significant difference.

“Enquiries into a number of break-ins at commercial premises have revealed that it is likely that those responsible had visited the locations during opening hours.

“I would ask that staff remain vigilant for individuals who may be acting suspiciously and to be aware that persons intending to commit such a crime may visit the premises in advance.”

If you have concerns please contact police on 101 (in an emergency always phone 999). Should you wish further advice or would like to arrange a crime prevention survey please contact 101 and ask to speak with your local crime prevention officer.
