Members of a Kilwinning club which recently folded after almost 60 years have received recognition from the Royal Voluntary Service.

Kilwinning Darby and Joan Club was a social group founded in September 1960 for senior members of the community.

The club suffered dwindling numbers in membership over the last few years and recently disbanded.

But volunteers from the now-defunct club have seen their years of service recognised.

Agnes Lamont, Irene Steel, Ceri Gilmour, Anne Neilson and Elizabeth Reid, who have amassed a total of 82 years’ service between them, were awarded Long Service certificates from the Royal Voluntary Service.

Anne Neilson, from Kilwinning Darby and Joan Club, said: “In its heyday, the club held fortnightly meetings, where members enjoyed a local speaker and a cup of tea and chat with home baking supplied by volunteers and dedicated bakers.”
