Kilwinning will be getting a real Christmas tree this year for its annual lights switch-on.

The annual switch-on will run from 4.30pm to 9pm this November 21 in the Main Street, with the switching on of the lights put back to 7pm to allow more people to get to the event after work.

As well as the vote for the Community Hero, organisers will be introducing the ‘Kilwinning Christmas Elf’ mascot, to promote the annual event and raise funds to purchase new lights for future events.

Promoting Kilwinning Chair Blair Kerr said: “One of the things we’re starting to do this year is working more with local businesses. We’re introducing the Kilwinning Christmas elf which supporting businesses are going to have. They’ve named their own elf and will be selling stickers, this is to raise money to go towards a replacement programme for the lights over upcoming years.”

“This year we do have a real Christmas tree, which is proving quite popular with people we’ve spoke to. The switch on will be getting put back to 7pm to allow more people to get home from work.

Kilwinning groups are invited to get in touch if they want stall space.
