North Ayrshire’s Foodbank is appealing for help to shift 25 tonnes of gravel at its Ardrossan HQ.

North Ayrshire Foodbank hopes either a company or squad of volunteers can help them shift the construction material as they prepare ground ahead of replacing a container with a large portakabin at the Church of the Nazerene base.

The appeal comes after a funding bid for the venture turned out to be unsuccessful.

Coordinator Craig Crosthwaite said: “We had applied for funding to help, we do apply for grants but not every one can be successful. So we’re looking to see if we can address it another way.

“We’re getting a Portakabin delivered in the next couple of weeks and we’ve got to lay a foundation for that.

“We’ve got 25 tonnes of Type 1 MOT getting delivered on Wednesday, what we really need is lots of people with shovels to move 25 tonnes into the church grounds.

“We’re not looking for anyone to give us money but its the person power to actually shift it.

“My volunteer colleague is offering to use a wacker we’re having to hire to put it into place but it’s getting it off the street, into the church and into place.

“We’ve got this massive task to be completed, if anyone can help us with that it would be brilliant.”

If anybody has the resources to assist in this task they can email to nafoodbank@btinternet.com or telephone mobile 07411113126 or landline 01294 601312 between the hours of 10am to 2pm Monday through to Friday.
