Seagate Rotary presented £200 in Asda vouchers to Vicki Harper on behalf of the Girdle Toll Food Bank on Monday last week.

The meeting’s speaker was Mary Beglan from North Ayrshire Women’s Aid.

The Women’s Aid organisation provides advice and support and refuge to women and children suffering from domestic abuse. This may be physical violence, or emotional or psychological control, and affects all levels of society.

At any time they can protect 24 adults and 42 children in safe accommodation, and last year helped and supported 500 women in North Ayrshire. Their contact number is 01294 602424.

Preliminary organisation is well under way for the Caring Trees at Christmas at the Portal throughout December.

This year the proceeds will be split between Irvine Cancer Care and Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline.

Any business or individual may sponsor a tree for £100, and may decorate it themselves or nominate a local school or youth organisation to do the decoration. Each tree is five feet tall, and lighting and the sponsor’s name will be provided.
