Following a highly successful open day at the harbour last month, the Saltcoats Harbour Association held one of its regular open meetings in the Melbourne Cafe last Tuesday, with a record number of attendees.

The group’s committee members have also had a number of productive meetings over the last few weeks with officers from North Ayrshire Council, in which further progress has been made in establishing the respective areas of responsibility the council and the association will have once the association’s plans for the harbour area become a reality.

Councillor Jean McClung, who was instrumental in the formation of the Harbour Association, said: “It gives me a lot of personal pleasure to see the progress being made towards Saltcoats Harbour becoming once more the active hub it was when I was young.

“I have been bowled over by the level of support and enthusiasm for this venture shown by members of the local community and beyond.

“I am especially grateful to all the committee members, the officers at NAC who are assisting the group, and the Melbourne cafe for its hospitality.

“At a time when we are attempting to bring tourists back to the Three Towns area, and with Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters coming up in 2020, what better time to rejuvenate our wee gem of a harbour.”
