A schoolgirl who was hit by a car in Kilwinning yesterday has been described as in a "serious but stable" condition.

The nine-year-old, who is believed to be a pupil of |Abbey Primary, was hit by a red Ford Fiesta on Dalry Road as she walked home from school yesterday (Wednesday, October 30) at around 3.20pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and also asking for anyone who might have dashcam footage to come forward.

The incident happened around 3.20pm near Kilwinning Academy when the red Fiesta collided with the child.

Emergency services attended and the girl was taken by medical helicopter to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The road was closed until 9.15pm while police carried out their investigations.

Inspector Greg Dinnie, of Ayrshire’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to us to come forward.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage which could help with our enquiries.”
