AN IRVINE football star has been ranked among the 30 most inspiring women in Scotland below the age of 30.
Scottish Women’s Team star Erin Cuthbert was listed in a 30 Under 30 list celebrating the success of Scottish women – with the local legend joining other inspiring change-makers, from business owners, artists and campaigners.
The 21-year-old former Greenwood Academy pupil Erin started out playing for Rangers FC before moving onto Glasgow City Women’s team and joined Chelsea FC in 2016.
The ace went to her first World Cup finals and scored in Scotland’s second group stage match against Argentina.
Sadly the debutants failed to progress past the first round, but Cuthbert gained valuable experience on the world stage and inspired many girls to follow in her boot steps.
During the World Cup a large mural appeared in Irvine on the side of the Seagate Amusements in Eglinton Street, with the striking image one of 11 eyecatching designs depicting the UK’s biggest female football stars, created by top female illustrators.
And last month Erin officially launched Irvine’s new £5.4million sports facility the Circuit on Quarry Road.
The 4th edition of the 30 Under 30, compiled by feminist organisation YWCA Scotland, shares the incredible stories of 30 women and non-binary people under 30 either from or currently living in Scotland.
