Another top folk act will perform in Irvine this month.

Fresh from a triumphant debut tour of Canada, Winter Wilson’s latest UK tour includes a welcome return visit to the Irvine Folk Club on Wednesday, November 20.

Scots-English folk-blues duo Winter Wilson could be forgiven for feeling like their feet haven’t touched the ground in the last couple of years. After opening for folk-rock legends Fairport Convention on a twenty-nine date UK tour, the pair have taken their music all across the UK and Western Europe and completed a second tour of Australia.

Both with successful full-time careers, the duo had for many years managed to fit part-time touring into holidays and weekends but then, in 2012, the aftermath of the financial crash left both Kip Winter and partner Dave Wilson facing redundancy. They decided to take a chance.

“We gave ourselves a year to see how things would turn out,” said Kip. “We never did the gap year thing as students,” added Dave, “and we knew we had enough money from our redundancy pay-outs to buy a van and get by for a while, so I’m glad we said ‘sod the daily grind’ and put ourselves out there.”

The duo will bring their glorious songs and humour to the Irvine Folk Club, from 8pm on Wednesday, November 20, at the Vineburgh Community Centre. BYOB.
