Ayrshire health heroes have picked up top awards at a glitzy health service ceremony.

Ann Allan from Ayrshire Central Hospital and The Care at Home Pharmacy Technician Service Team from Eglinton House have been recognised as some of Scotland’s most dedicated health care professionals at the annual Scottish Health Awards 2019.

Ann won the Midwife Award for her work in supporting vulnerable women in Ayrshire throughout their pregnancies.

Her nominator said: “She is essentially a moder n-day angel who deserves any recognition for holding my family together through a very difficult time.”

Sponsored by Royal College of Midwives, the award recognises an individual providing high quality and compassionate care for women and babies in Scotland. The Care at Home team scooped the Integrated Care Award.

The group was nominated for its work in bringing together community, hospital, and primary care partners.

Commenting on the work of team member Fiona, one homecare manager said: “When the team is having difficulty with medication or engaging with local pharmacies Fiona is the first person that we turn to. I think it is fair to say without her we would be lost.”

The 18th annual prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay, on Thursday, November 14, at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. More information on the awards can be found at scottishhealthawards.com.
