HUNDREDS of Kilwinning residents turned out to the town’s official Christmas Lights Switch On to kick off the festive season

The event, which is organised by Promoting Kilwinning, saw hundreds of people descend on the town centre for the annual celebrations.

This years lights were switched on by Kilwinning-born Tracy McGuire, who has owned and operated The Dance Depot in the town for 25 years.

The main attraction in the event was the new real Christmas tree and lights, which has attracted praise from the public and local businesses.

This year, Promoting Kilwinning live streamed the stage acts and switch on via the Facebook page for people to enjoy again and again.

Promoting Kilwinning would like to thank everyone who made the event a success.

A spokesman said: “We have worked hard to partner with many organisations to host the event and we would like to thank all the community groups and businesses who have supported the event.”

Kilwinning businesses have supported the event by hosting the Kilwinning Christmas Elf competition, where the young people collected the names of the elves from the shops to win a selection box.

Promoting Kilwinning would like to improve the lights for next year and are asking the people of Kilwinning to help them achieve their goal by purchasing the Kilwinning Christmas Elf support sticker from local businesses in Kilwinning Main Street, just look out for the elf in the shop window.
