The Dragon Boat Race is set to return to Irvine as part of a new coastal festival.

Council chiefs say the Dragon Boat Race will be back as part of its Making Waves Festival next year – after the event was scrapped ahead of Marymass 2016.

Seagate Rotary agreed last month to work with North Ayrshire Council to bring back the Dragon Boat event as part of the new festival next July.

The event is set to be a weekend of live music, street theatre, food and drink with lots to do along Irvine’s Harbourside for Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters 2020.

Other than the return of the race, NAC say full details of the event are set to be confirmed in March 2020.

Caitriona McAuley, North Ayrshire Council’s Head of Service for Economic Development and Regeneration) said: “The Year of Coasts and Waters 2020 is an excellent opportunity to encourage more visitors to explore all that North Ayrshire has to offer.”
