NORTH Ayrshire council has spent more than £18,000 on hot drinks and biscuits since 2017, a freedom of information request has revealed.

A whopping total of £18,292.20 was splurged on tea, coffee and sweet treats by North Ayrshire Council between January 2017 and November 2019.

Tea was by far the hot beverage of choice - with council chiefs spending more than £8,000 on Tetley tea bags.

In total NAC bought more than 600,000 teabags over almost three years.

The council’s preferred cup of tea is definitely Tetley, but they also have a fondness for Brakes Fairtrade teabags.

NAC also spent more than £5,000 on Border biscuits.

Brakes Instant Coffee Sticks were the most popular cup of joe, with 26,000 of the sachets being bought.

Nescafe and Cafe Direct were also used for for a perk-up.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The Council holds hundreds, if not thousands, of meetings each year with external partners.

“Many of them can last a number of hours.

“We provide tea, coffee and biscuits to keep everyone refreshed during the proceedings.”
