A 77-YEAR-OLD woman is in a stable condition after suffering serious injuries when a vehicle knocked her down in Irvine.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the pensioner was hit by a vehicle at around 6.30pm on Thursday, December 19.

Several police vans and an unmarked car were seen at a taped up section of the ASDA carpark after the call out at around 6.30pm on Thursday, December 19 after reports of a woman being struck by a vehicle.

With her condition critical the woman was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Police Scotland said the woman is still in hospital where staff describe her condition as serious but stable.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, of road policing Irvine, said: “The elderly woman who was involved in this crash has sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

“We are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in or around the Rivergate Shopping Centre at the time of the incident to come forward with any information.

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage that may help with our investigation, to get in contact with officers.
