A GROUP of footballers from across the community had an opportunity to develop their skills and learn about healthy eating at the same time.

Kilwinning Sports Club held a 12-week free Go Fitba course which involved classes on nutrition, healthy eating and healthy eating.

Then outdoors they had an opportunity to develop skills in passing, shooting and dribbling.

Around 18 to to 20 youngsters in the P4 to P7 age range took part in the popular event.

All were from the Kilwinning area. At the end of each session they enjoyed a meal and Christmas dinner was held at the last one.

Following the final week, the youngsters were all presented with medals. Coaches were Colin Hunter, Craig Potter and James Hartnett.

Funding for the sessions was provided by the Scottish Football Partnership.

Coach Colin Hunter said: “A huge thanks to Dot and Debbie for providing such tasty and healthy food throughout the programme. They really surpassed themselves with the Christmas meal. The children were interested in learning about the different types of food, especially vegetables and they enjoyed playing.

“Thanks again for all the support from the schools and coaches and to The Scottish Football Partnership. Hopefully in the New Year more courses like this will be running at Kilwinning Sports Club.”
