Trains have been cancelled between Ayr and Kilwinning due to overhead line damage.

Network Rail say they are working to fix the problem with replacement buses brought in.

A Scotrail spokesperson said: "We’re dealing with overhead line damage between Barassie and Ayr, affecting our Glasgow Central – Ayr route in both directions. These services will terminate and start back from Kilwinning, with replacement buses between Ayr and Kilwinning connecting with trains.

"Trains to/from Largs and Ardrossan to Glasgow Central are not affected by the overhead line damage."

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "Our team have taken possession of the track and will now work to get the last of these trains moved. We’ll then begin assessing the extent of the damage and what repairs need to be carried out. We don’t have a timescale yet, but when we do, we’ll let you know.

"Our response teams have been working at several locations between Kilwinning and Ayr overnight, following damage to the overhead wires occurring late last night. We’ve worked with ScotRail colleagues to begin moving trains clear of the area.
