Police are advising residents to keep keys out of reach of the letterbox after two vehicles were stolen.

Police Scotland urge residents to be aware of letterbox thieves after a set of keys were stolen using the unusual method in Annanhill Place in Kilwinning last month.

The Kilwinning resident had two of their vehicles stolen after keys were fished out through the letterbox by a callous thief between the evening of December 4 and the morning of December 5 using an unknown long implement.

Kilwinning Locality Sgt Allen Dodds said: “Someone has approached a door and put an implement through the door and taken two sets of car keys and got away with two cars.

"We’re trying to persuade people to not leave car keys within eye sight of your letter box.”

Police can be contacted on 101 in an emergency always phone 999.
