North Ayrshire bakers secured more success in Scotland’s national pie awards.

Beth Brownings Bakery, The Kandy Bar Bakery and Irvine’s Bakery in Beith were presented with more prizes by TV personality Carol Smillie at the 21st World Championship Scotch Pie Awards held last Thursday.

Kilwinning bakery Beth Browning’s secured two Silver awards, one for their Apple pie and one for Cajun Macaroni Pie.

The Kandy Bar, based in Saltcoats with outlets in Kilwinning and West Kilbride, secured a Gold award for its Apple Pie.

And Irvine’s Bakery scooped up three Silver awards – one for its Beith Juniors FC Steak Pie, Chicken and Black Pudding Pie and Steak Pie.

Stephen McAllister, of The Kandy Bar, said: “Everybody in the team is absolutely delighted to once again win another fantastic award at this years Scottish Pie Awards. Everybody is over the moon and delighted that year on year our standards remain exceptionally high.

“Obviously we’ve got to thank our customers for their continued support year in year out.

“We wouldn’t be able to be in business without them nevermind collecting all these super duper awards. Without their help and without the help of the team it just wouldn’t be possible. Thanks to everyone for their support over the years, we’re all really excited to be celebrating another successful year.”

Beth Browning’s Head Baker George McMillan said: “We’re delighted. We’ve done really well over the past few years and it’s always nice to be recognised as one of the best in Ayrshire – and the Ayrshire bakeries always seem to do well.

“We’re absolutely over the moon and the Cajun one was just something we invented and weren’t going to put in in for the competition, but thought it was something different. We couldn’t be prouder.

“At the end of the day the customer is number one and keep us going. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be here and its great to get the feedback and them coming in to congratulate us.”

Maurice Irvine said: “We’re absolutely delighted to secure three silvers, it’s been a really good year as we previously won Craft Baker of the Year for the second year running so on top of that it’s absolutely brilliant.

“We never forget that our customers judge us every day so we’re delighted to be up their with the best.

“I’m very grateful to the hardworking staff, they have put a lot of effort into it to get to where we are and we work hard to try and stay there.”
