Sheltered housing residents in Kilwinning have hit out at plans to make wardens redundant.
Irvine Housing bosses met with residents at West Doura Court and Hawthorn Place last week to announce changes which will see four wardens and a domestic worker made redundant in April.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It’s leaving the vulnerable in a dreadful situation where they might not even have human contact on a day-to-day basis, I think that’s shocking. Everyone was really upset last week.”
Paul Hillard, Managing Director, Irvine Housing Association said: “Two full time wardens, two relief wardens and a part time domestic have been placed at risk and we are currently working with them to explore alternative options, including applying for the new Retirement Living Assistant post.
"All five individuals will continue in their posts until the new service goes live at the beginning of April.
“We recognise that any change of this nature can be unsettling and we are committed to supporting both our residents and staff as we move to the new service arrangements.”
