LIFE and spice from India were experienced when a special event was staged in Troon recently.

A fundraising Bollywood Charity Night was held to support the work of Dr Graham’s Homes in India.

It was staged in the South Beach Hotel in the town and organised by Troon woman Lynne Watt and her daughter Vicki.

Lynne said: “I was just back from India having travelled with Aileen and one of the places we visited was Dr Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong.

“So I decided it would be appropriate to have an Indian theme to the evening.

“There was Bollywood dancing, a raffle, beautiful Indian food provided by hotel and disco until noon.

“It was a ladies night and lots of ladies dressed up in their Indian outfits .

A great night was had by all. We raised £1,800 which was split three ways between Ayrshire Hospice, MS Society and Dr Graham’s Homes.”

An afternoon tea was organised at the South Beach Hotel, where photos were shown of India and the Bollywood Night.

James Gibson, the Glasgow-based treasurer from Dr Graham’s was presented with a £600 cheque and an afternoon tea was organised, showing photos of India and the Bollywood night.

Dr Graham’s Homes accommodate around 1500 students. The very youngest are only three years old and have been plucked from the streets of Calcutta to begin a new life in the Lucia King kindergarten.

At any one time there will be 250 such children supported by their committee progressing through a cottage system started by Dr Graham more than 100 years ago.

After school, they will be given the opportunity to attend college and lead a fulfilling life.

The homes are recognised today by the Indian government as a Christian establishment.
