A RECENT report has said North Ayrshire residents are among the most physically inactive in Scotland.
The damning document, produced by a digital health service named Medicspot, revealed the locality is the third most unfit area in the country.
The UK government has advised adults do a minimum of 150 minutes of ‘moderate intensity activity’ to keep fit and estimates physical inactivity directly costs the National Health Service about £900 million per year.
“There are many ways people can be more active, including riding a bike, brisk walking or pushing a lawnmower, all of which count towards the recommended 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise for adults,” said Dr Johnson D’souza, medical director at Medicspot.
National Health Service guidelines show 75 minutes of ‘vigorous intensity activity’ provides the same health benefits.
“Vigorous intensity activity makes you breathe hard and fast. This includes running, skipping, riding a bike uphill, and sports like football, rugby and netball”, said Dr D’souza.
