An AYR bus driver has scooped a top national award for making the town’s depot one of the greenest in the country.

William Allan, who is based at Stagecoach West Scotland’s depot in Ayr, took home the ‘Going for Green’ award for transforming the depot to be one of the best in the company.

He has achieved this through using his ability to speak with his colleagues and always being on hand to offer advice and help.

The Going for Green category recognised William as an Eco-Champion who works on Stagecoach’s GreenRoad system which ensures drivers are driving safely and economically which in turn helps both the company and the environment.

A judging panel made up of drivers, managers and engineers selected the winners who were presented with their awards at the ceremony in Edinburgh.

William said: “It is an unbelievable honour to win this award but it wouldn’t have been possible without the magnificent support I get every day from all of the team in the Ayr depot.

“It is really important to listen to everyone at the depot as we are always looking to improve as a team wherever we can.

“I’d like to thank everyone for working so hard to make the depot one of the best performing in the whole of the UK.”

Fiona Doherty, Managing Director at Stagecoach West Scotland, said: “The Stars Awards are a huge day in the Stagecoach calendar and I am so pleased for William and the team in Ayr for winning the Going Green award.

“I am proud of the service we deliver for our customers and every day I see the huge contribution that the team at Stagecoach West Scotland make to keeping communities connected throughout Ayrshire and the West of Scotland.

“Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s Stagecoach Stars Awards.”
