FUTURE baking stars were discovered at Stanecastle school as youngsters held a successful Bake Off.

The grand final of the bake-off took place on Friday, March 6 where the last contestants baked, decorated and produced a masterclass which was judged by supermarket staff.

The winners were announced after a fantastic competition which is hoped will improve life skills and confidence in the talented pupils.

Senior pupil of the school, Horatio Moyes, was crowned the champion of the competition, as the senior and overall winner.

His beautifully decorated fruity cake impressed judges.

The junior champ of the Bake Off was Jordan Brown, who’s icing skills shone.

Runner-up was Logan Wilson who baked his own sponge cake in a loaf tin, with added coconut sprinkles.

Proud Home Economics teacher Mrs Anna Craven set up the competition which attracted 45 initial candidates.

After the grand final she told the Times: “We have been doing the competition over the past few weeks.

“Each week there was heats in each class. We had 45 children taking part in different class heats. From P7 to S5/S6.

“I’ve been building up a set of recipe skills with them, been building it up over the week.

“It’s helped them to be a more independent and have confidence in their cooking skills.”
