The 2020 Dragon Boat Race is now open for entries after Seagate relaunched the classic Irvine event.

The Dragon Boat Race is set to return to Irvine as part of a new Making Waves coastal festival with residents invited to paddle for charity, join as a staff team or enter just for fun.

Seagate Rotary agreed last November to work with North Ayrshire Council to bring back the Dragon Boat event on Irvine Harbourside

The fun event, now set to return on Saturday, July 18 after the event was scrapped ahead of Marymass 2016, as fund-raising opportunity for charity groups, a challenge for work teams or just a day for fun and thrills.

For a team, you need 16 paddlers, one drummer and (optional) three reserves. Any age from 12 upwards.

The entry fee is £50 per team.

Caitriona McAuley, North Ayrshire Council’s Head of Service for Economic Development and Regeneration) said: “The Year of Coasts and Waters 2020 is an excellent opportunity to encourage more visitors to explore all that North Ayrshire has to offer.”
