Police Scotland has confirmed that they have arrested a man in relation to an alleged assault at the Day-Today convenience store in Bourtreehill on Monday night.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 19-year-old man has been charged following an assault within a shop in Lower Vennel, Bourtreehill, Irvine.
"The incident happened around 6pm on Monday, 23 March, 2020. A 47-year-old female shop worker was taken to Crosshouse Hospital with a serious but non-life threatening head injury.
"The man is due to appear at court at a later date."
