A café worker from Irvine has received the good news she’d been waiting for – her customer, Tom McFarlane is safe and well.

Morgyn McCulloch had been seeking any info about Tom, a regular customer of hers who used to have his lunch in Puffers Café where she works in Irvine.

Family members of Tom got in touch with us after an appeal for information put out on our website earlier today.

Katie McFarlane, Tom’s granddaughter told us: “I wanted to reach out and say that my papa is keeping well and it was so lovely to hear such a heartfelt message about my papa in such difficult times.

“Along with my dad and sister I live down in London and don’t get up to see my papa as much as I would like so it’s lovely to see he has so many people who care for him.”

“Please on behalf of the whole family thank Morgyn it’s lovely to see her well wishes.”

Since the café has been shut due to Coronavirus Morgyn had not heard from Tom and wanted to check in on him. Tom used to share stories about his time in the war and about his day more generally when visiting Puffers for his lunch every day.

Morgyn may have to wait a while until she speaks to Tom in person again, but she’s certainly been making the most of modern technology to converse with his family.

Laura McFarlane, another of Tom’s relatives has been exchanging messages with Morgyn saying: “Thanks for looking out for him Morgyn, he's really missing his daily visits to the cafe and getting a blether. He passed on his hello and thanks. He will be your first customer through the door I'm sure.”

To which, Morgan responded: “I’m sure he will lol.”
